Dr. Lisa Brothwell is a New York State licensed Counseling Psychologist. She received her graduate training at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

She was raised in a rural area south of Buffalo, NY, and at age 12 her parents split up and her mother took her on a 7 year adventure, living in various parts of Europe. When she was 23, Lisa’s mother committed suicide. Filled with a desire to know how to help others suffering from mental problems, and to personally avoid following the same path as her mother, Lisa studied psychology. She received counseling in many of the modalities popular at that time, including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Radix, Psycho Drama, and Reparenting.

Lisa began her work as a therapist doing traditional talk therapy, and felt that her success rate was around 33%. Later, she studied (and also received) therapy in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and NET (Neuro Emotional Technique). She felt that the mind/body techniques moved her personally from functional to joyful, and increased her success rate with clients to 80% or better.

Having a belief system that we are all fellow journeyers along the path of life, Lisa promotes the sense that her clients are whole and healthy. She sees herself as a consultant, hired by the client to help them achieve their own goals.

Those goals usually relate to releasing patterns or trauma from the past, learning to love self, and allowing more joy and playfulness into one’s life. Lisa infuses her sessions with warmth and humor, and the belief that the journey should be as much fun as the destination.
